Mr. Magnani has over 30 years’ experience in the international health & development arena, during which time he has worked in 34 countries around the globe, including eight countries in Asia. He has lived in Jakarta since October 2005. His career spans 11 years working in government, 12 years in academia and 10 years in the private/NGO sector.
He is a former Country Director/Chief of Party for Family Health International in Indonesia and Vice President for Technical Support in FHI’s Institute for HIV/AIDS based in Arlington, Virginia, USA. He spent 12 years on the faculty of the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, including a stint as Chair of the Department of International Health and Development. In addition to his role at Angsamerah, he is a part-employee of the Futures Institute, consults regularly for CHAI, and does periodic consultant assignments for UNFPA, UNAIDS and WHO.

His areas of professional competence include reproductive health/family planning; adolescent health; HIV and AIDS; operations and health systems research, disease surveillance, survey measurement (including sampling) and program evaluation (especially intervention trials). He also has programmatic experience and professional publications in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition. He has over 60 professional publications to his credit and has made over 100 presentations at national and international conferences.
As Senior Advisor for Angsamerah, he will bring his health systems experience to bear to lead the development of the Happy Project, participate in the development of the consulting wing of Angsamerah, and contribute his expertise in quality assurance and operations research to maintaining high quality services at Angsamerah clinics.
