From 5 model correctional facilities in Indonesia, 65% of inmates have mental illness according to MINI International Neuropsychiatry Interview, with 36% of them have substance/drug dependence. The most common group of mental illness among inmates are neurotic, mood disorder, substance/drug dependence, and psychotic.

95% inmates at Madiun Correctional Facility are being involved with alcohol, tobacco, and other substances. This behavior may lead to various behavior including spread of infection such as Hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS. These inmates need brief intervention to reduce the health risk and reuse of aforementioned substances.

More than 50% inmates had mental disorder, with most of them had multiple mental disorders. the biggest problem inside this correctional facility was drug dependence.
